Southern Fried Chicken

This southern fried chicken is coated in egg, milk, and flour, then fried to perfections making it golden brown and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Fried Chicken is a staple food in the south.

Many families enjoy Fried Chicken on Sundays. It is a southern traditional Sunday Dinner. Cooking the best fried chicken is alot easier than you think.


Serve fried chicken with Creamy mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and candied yams, for a classic Sunday dinner.

What Chicken is best when Frying chicken.

This will depend on your preference. When frying chicken I prefer the drumsticks, just because I find them the easiest. You can also fry thighs, breast, or leg quarters. However, I find frying chicken leg quarters to be the most challenging due to their size. They take a lot long to cook and take up alot of room in the skillet, unless you break them in half.

  1. Place a skillet over medium- high heat, Filling a skillet with about 2 cups of vegetable oil. (Skillet needs to be half full of vegetable oil.)
  2. In one mixing bowl add 2 ½ cups of flour, salt and pepper. In second mixing bowl add beaten eggs and milk together.
  3. Using a paper towel pat dry chicken lets. First dip chicken let into milk mixture, then dip into flour mixture.
  4. Shake off any excessive flour and carefully place chicken leg into skillet. Let chicken fry for 7-8 minutes, turn chicken over and fry 7-8 minutes. Chicken is done when internal temperature 165 °F. If chicken is golden brown, but internal temperature has not yet reached 165 °F turn heat down to low and continue to cook chicken until internal temperature reaches 165 °F

Storing Fried Chicken:

You can store leftover chicken in the fridge for up to four days. Reheat Chicken in the microwave.
