Cream Cheese Wontons

April 7, 2022

Cream Cheese wontons have an ooey gooey cream cheese filling on the inside and a crispy golden-brown outside. You can now have your favorite Asian appetizer any time.

Cream cheese wonton, similar to Crab Rangoon is served in many American Chinese restaurants. But what if you could have them any time of day or night? What if you would make them yourself? Well now you can. This Cream Cheese Wonton Recipe is very simple. You oly need four ingredients, and you can make your own cream cheese wontons and I think they are better than what you will find in most restaurants.

History of Cream Cheese Wonton

Surprising Cream Cheese wontons did not originate from China like most would think. Cream cheese wontons was on the menu of the “Polynesian-style” restaurant Trader Vic’s in San Francisco since at least 1956. Although the appetizer is allegedly derived from an authentic Burmese recipe, the dish was probably invented in the United States by Joe Young working under Victor Bergeron, founder of Trader Vic’s. A “Rangoon crab a la Jack” was mentioned as a dish at a Hawaiian-style party in 1952, but without further detail, and so may or may not be the same thing.

The history of Crab Rangoon is unclear, though the dish might be derived from the Cantonese dish of fried wontons.
