Chicken Fried Chicken topped with a creamy white country gravy is a delilous southern classic comfort food, that will have your family begging for it again and again.

What is Chicken Fried Chicken?

Chicken Fried Chicken, sometimes referred to as Country Fried Chicken is chicken breast that have been coated in a seasoned flour mixture and pan-fried until golden brown and crispy. The chicken is then topped with a creamy white country gravy.

Chicken Fried Chicken VS Fried Chicken

Equipment needed:

Ingredients you will need:

Boneless chicken– Thin sliced breast are best for this recipe. If you are using thick breast, then you will need to cut them in half.

All-Purpose Flour– You will use flour and spices to make a seasoned flour that will be used for dipping the chicken before frying and will also be used to make the gravy.

Eggs– Egg acts as a glue to attach the flour to the chicken.

Milk or Buttermilk- You can use milk or buttermilk.

Garlic Powder and Paprika- are added to flour to make a flour seasoning for the chicken and gravy.

Salt and Pepper– Season chicken with salt and pepper.

For the Country Gravy:

Butter

Reserved Flour Seasoning

Milk

salt & pepper to taste

Easy chicken fried chicken recipe:

  1. Heat Vegetable in a skillet or heavy bottom pan over medium heat. Oil needs to be around 340 degrees. 
  2. In a shallow dish combine flour, garlic powder and paprika. Reserve 3 tablespoons to make the gravy.
  3. In a separate bowl add egg and beat with a fork, then add milk.
  4. Dip chicken breast into flour the seasoned flour, coating lightly. Then dredge chicken into milk mixture, and then back into seasoned flour, coating both sides of chicken in seasoned flour.  Shake off any excessive flour. 
  5. Carefully add chicken breast to the vegetable oil. You may need to do this in batches. (Do not crowd the pan)
  6. Cook on each side for 3-4 minutes until lightly browned on each side.  Drain chicken on a paper towel. 

For the gravy:

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan.
  2. Stir in 3 tablespoons of the reserved flour seasoning and cook 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Slowly whisk in milk. about ½ cup at a time. 
  4. Bring mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes until gravy has thickened.
  5. Add salt and pepper. 

Top chicken fried chicken with gravy.
