What is Chicken Bog?

Chicken Bog is a dish made of rice and chicken. It can include onion, spices, and meat. Chicken is often boiled until tender, then the rice in added in and cooked until it absorbs all the liquid. It called chicken bog because the chicken gets bogged down in the rice.


Ingredients:

Water

Chicken

Rice

Onion

Sausage

Salt and Pepper

How to cook Carolina Chicken Bog:

Place water, salt, and onion in a large pot over medium heat. Add chicken and bring to a boil. Lower heat to low and simmer chicken for about 1 hour until chicken is tender. 

Remove chicken from pot and let cool.  Remove skin and bones from chicken and shred the remaining meat. 

Add rice, shredded chicken, and sausage into the pot.  Cook over medium heat until it begins to boil. Reduce heat until low and cook for 30 minutes or until it reaches the desired consistency. Stir often while cooking.

8 cups water or chicken broth

34-pound Chicken

2 cups Rice

1 large onion, diced

½-pound Smoked Sausage

Salt

Pepper

Instructions

  1. Place water, salt, and onion in a large pot over medium heat. Add chicken and bring to a boil. Lower heat to low and simmer chicken for about 1 hour until chicken is tender.
